Goals are a key factor in productivity and success.
Highly-motivated individuals are willing to work hard, set and complete goals and be upbeat. All of these factors lead to an infectious attitude that positively influences others around them. Management can use goal setting in order to jump-start their employee’s productivity. The well respected author Zig Ziglar said this about goal setting. “What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.” His statement reminds us of the personal benefits from goal setting. Once an individual starts to achieve small goals (even ones set by team management), they start developing as a person. They gain confidence, begin to understand their capabilities and use them to be more productive.
Another of my favorite quotes about goal setting comes from Ralph Waldo Emerson, who said “We aim above the mark to hit the mark.“ I remember one of my teachers told me to never start a class with the goal of passing. Instead, start out with a higher, more difficult goal. If you start out working towards an A as your final grade, you’ve set yourself up to easily achieve the base goal of passing the class. And you’re more likely to do the work, be prepared and excell at your studies. Just like in life, aim high and you are more likely to get there!
In conclusion, make a conscious decision to set goals for yourself. Aim high to be successful and productive.
